Last week we began talking about time. We read A Second is a Hiccup. This book helped us to think about what can happen in a certain amount of time.
We also talked about how the sun appears to move across the sky...setting and rising. The children brought a model home to show how the sun appears to move across the sky. This week we will continue to investigate sky patterns. We will investigate the question: Why do we see the stars at night? We will also learn about Martin Luther King Jr. We are in the finishing stages of our Winter books, and we will be writing a group poem this week about WINTER. We will be practicing making sensible rhymes! Your children are doing a good job with moving between short and long vowel reading and spelling patterns. Even though we are practicing the spelling patterns too, your children will learn to read these words far sooner than they will apply the pattern in their every day writing. They may get them correct on spelling check in day, but please understand it will take time for them to apply these patterns regularly. Your children continue to fill buckets. We are looking forward to our re-scheduled New Year's breakfast. This will happen this Friday, January 12th from 8:45-9:15. We could use two more serving volunteers and if anyone could bring hot chocolate that would be terrific.
