Our Readiness and First Grade field trip to Odiorne Point will be on May 21st. More information about this trip will come home in early May. If you are interested in chaperoning this trip...and we like to have lots of volunteers...you will need to become a "Designated Volunteer". This process takes some time, so I encourage you to start the process. Please see our school website for more information, or contact the main office to find out how to become a "Designated Volunteer".
This week we will be going on our walking field trip to the New Boston Historical Society. This is on Tuesday afternoon. If you have not signed the permission slip, please return it on Monday. If you have misplaced it, please send in a note on Monday indicating that your child has permission to attend. Children without a signed permission slip or note will be unable to participate.
Last week was a rich week of learning and growing. We celebrated our 100th day with activities centering around the number 100! Children sorted, exercised, and created all with the number 100 in mind. Our Valentine Presentation was a wonderful tribute to special family members. Later that day, children became Postal Workers eagerly delivering their Valentines to their friends. I love the hustle and bustle and eagerness as kids happily search for their friends' mailboxes! Giving and kindness are in the air. Thank you too for all of the treats! It was delicious! We are learning about animal features. On Friday, we read about animal teeth. We then answered the question, "What if we had animal teeth?" We then created pictures of ourselves with different animal teeth. Imagine having shark teeth, crocodile teeth, bat teeth, camel teeth... Our week was also filled with learning about Abraham Lincoln, and finding equivalent names for numbers. Math homework this week will focus on equivalent names. A letter explaining this will go home with the math homework. Please Note: There has been a change to our school-wide Spirit Day. Instead of Character Day, it will be Famous Person Day! I can't wait to see what famous people head through the classroom door on Friday! Lastly, I am still looking for a few report card envelopes. If you have not returned the envelope, please sign and return. If you have misplaced it, please send a note in that indicates you received the report card. Thank you! Today was the Hundredth Day of School! We celebrated by doing different activities in each of the Readiness and First Grade Classrooms!
Happy Birthday to Abraham Lincoln! We learned about our 16th president. We will learn more tomorrow too! Wednesday is Valentine's Day. We will have our family presentation at 8:30 a.m. in the library. Our Valentine Party will be at 1:30 p.m. On Tuesday, a field trip permission slip will come home. We will be taking a walking field trip to the New Boston Historical Society. We will go with our reading buddies on February 20th. I am missing a few report card envelopes. Please sign the envelope and return it to school. The report card can stay at home. Happy February Curious Caterpillar Families!
I hope this posting finds all of our families healthy! Some of the topics we visited last week will be revisited in the upcoming weeks. We will extend our learning about Needs/Wants, Goods/Services, and Producers/Consumers. On Friday, report cards went home. The report card may stay at home, but please sign and return the envelope. Also on Friday, your child's first Math Journal went home. There are some pages that have not been completed. These pages make for great EXTRA practice. This week, your child's homework will be to complete 3 pages that have not been completed. I would then like your child to write me a note letting me know what pages he/she completed. He should also tell me his/her opinion on the pages. Did he/she like a certain kind of problem? Find another type challenging? etc. The note to me will be due Wednesday. Your child does not need to bring the journal back. This week is an Assessment week at school. Your child will be taking a Mid-Year Math Assessment and a Reading and Writing Benchmark Assessment. Valentine's Day is approaching. It is a tradition, along with our reading buddies, to honor families on this day. We will be sharing special writings about a special topic...YOU! Please join us on February 14th in the library from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. We will be presenting our writings at this time. Later that day, from 1:30-2:00, we will have our Valentine Party. Children may pass out Valentines at this time. I will send a class list via e-mail. Your child does not have to hand out Valentines, but if he/she chooses to do so, I ask that he/she have one for each classmate. In addition, your child will be making a Valentine Mailbox here at school. Your child will need to bring in a box....a shoe box, cereal box, or cracker box will work great! Please make sure that your child has the box by Friday of this week. Thank you! If you are interested in helping with party supplies, party help, and/or party treats...
