Thank you for a wonderful year with your child.
Thank you too for the special gifts and heartfelt notes of appreciation. I will treasure them, and I will treasure the memories of The Curious Caterpillars! Today we read Mrs. Spitzer's Garden. This book is about a teacher and the "garden" that she tends to each year. Like Mrs. Spitzer, I too tended the "garden" that appeared at my door this past September. We spent 180 days growing, blooming, weeding, and reblooming! I know that each of them will continue to grow and bloom! Report cards went home today and they are in your child's folder. If your child was not in attendance today, you may pick up the report card at the main office. Have a wonderful summer! We have had a wonderful and enriching year. Your children have grown so very much.
This week we will focus on some favorite stories and we will create a memory book. Throughout the course of the week, you will see some "Memories" come home. Last week, "The Messy Treasure" folder (Our rough drafts) came home. Mrs. Chalson also sent home their art projects! We will be visiting the Historical Society on Wednesday. This is a walking trip. A permission slip went home on Friday. Please return as soon as possible. We look forward to hatch day! We expect hatching on Tuesday, but sometimes they come early. It will be an exciting time!
Monday is the Reading Challenge Celebration. Please have your children pack a towel or blanket. There is a letter about the Reading Challenge in my previous posts. Please check it out. Students from second grade are selling lemonade on Thursday. Children may pre-order tomorrow. Cost is 50 cents (small) and 1 dollar (large). More information is in the school's Thursday notice. Field Day is on Thursday as well as the school-wide barbecue. There is no cost to students for the barbecue. Please have your child dress for field day. Sneakers, shorts, water bottle. Please apply sunscreen and bug spray before sending your child to school. We are learning about traditions. We have read about traditional dances and we have discussed traditions of our own. We had a visit from my friend Mrs. Judd on Friday. She helped us to "candle" our eggs. We were able to shine a light onto the egg to see the developing chicks. So far, we have 7 developing chicks! We have about one more week to go before hatch time.
Next week we will be reviewing our math concepts and practicing counting money. Mid-week we will begin our final end of year Math Assessment. This week will be our final homework week. Your children have done a great job with their homework, and the reading log! Please encourage your child to fill out the minutes part. It is a small step in owning their learning. Our school-wide reading celebration is on Monday. A letter went home about this, and your children heard about it during our Community Meeting. I have posted the letter below this post. It will outline all your children will need. |
