First graders feel fantastic! Did your child talk to you about alliteration? The opening sentence is an example of alliteration, and we had fun recognizing alliteration this week. We can also recognize verbs and nouns within sentences!
We are working on writing rhyming and free verse poetry. We will continue to explore these formats in the upcoming week. We will be reading folktales this week. Our comprehension focus will be on sequencing and recognizing cause and effect. This past week we learned about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We listened to the story Martin's Big Words, The Story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and read about him in our Scholastic News Magazine. During math time, we are comparing numbers and sequencing large numbers. We will begin a number scroll this week, so be sure to ask your children mid-week about their scrolls. Comments are closed.
