Wonder and Discovery Abound!
How lucky I am to be your child's teacher!
My goal is to make each learning moment one of value that will lead your child to be his/her most creative self.
The past 22 of my twenty-eight years of teaching have been spent at New Boston Central School. The community of New Boston is certainly a special one, and the students of New Boston Central School are extraordinary! Each year brings on new challenges and new joys!
In first grade we learn to be Bucket Fillers. Bucket Fillers make it their goal to be kind and caring to one another.
Our first grade classroom is rich with learning experiences. Reading, Writing, and Mathematics are at the core of all that we do. Literacy and Math opportunities are incorporated into our content area studies to provide a rich and engaging curriculum! We love to explore, and it is not uncommon to smell delicious smells or to see volcanic pumpkins erupting in our room!
Students in my classroom learn about being writers. You will start to hear your children talking about how writers develop IDEAS, ORGANIZE their writing, use strong WORD CHOICES, and write sentences with FLUENCY! Your children will also learn about how writers need to respect the reader by using correct writing CONVENTIONS.
However, most importantly, you will hear your children talk about how writers try to write "like nobody else would think to write it". This is called a writer's VOICE. Your child is learning about the SIX TRAITS OF WRITING. Best of all, besides hearing your children talk about these things, you will begin to see glimmers of these traits appear in their writing!
Most importantly, I love learning, and it is my goal to share that love with your children!
Meet Ms. Kim
My name is Mrs. Kimberly Bacastow, and I am so excited to be learning with you this year! You may call me Ms. Kim.
I live in New Boston, and I have been with New Boston Central School for the last 3 years as a paraprofessional. I have a son who also attends NBCS.
Before working here, I spent ten years working in finance, and I also spent ten years in the United States Marine Corps.
My hobbies are running marathons, reading, camping with my family, and caring for my many pets. I have a rescued black Labrador (Chance), a yellow golden doodle (Logan), a bearded dragon (Axl), and three fish.
I grew up in New Jersey, but I have also lived in Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Hawaii, and Virginia before moving to New Hampshire.
I am looking forward to learning more about you and getting to know you this year!
