High Frequency words are words that occur often in reading and writing. If children recognize these words automatically, without having to sound them out, they increase their reading fluency.
Sight Words often have irregular spelling patterns.
We practice both reading and writing these words.
Practicing these words with your child will support your child's reading and writing development.
Children should be able to read each word within 1-2 seconds of seeing it.
Spelling these words accurately is important, but reading mastery will come sooner than spelling mastery.
I have included the Sight Words for each unit, starting with Start Smart. I encourage families to work on these words with your child during the unit course of study.
As we complete a unit, you can review that unit's words and begin practicing the new ones.
