Your children will be learning the following High Frequency Words - Sight Words within the first 9 weeks of school. High Frequency words are words that occur often in reading and writing. If children recognize these words automatically, without having to sound them out, they increase their reading fluency. Sight Words often have irregular spelling patterns. We practice both reading and writing these words. Practicing these words with your child will support your child's reading and writing development. Children should be able to read each word within 1-2 seconds of seeing it. Spelling these words accurately is important, but reading mastery will come sooner than spelling mastery.
