Our trip to see the production of Pete The Cat, is tomorrow. Please see the previous post for information on what your child needs.
Last Friday was our last spelling test. We will be learning new spelling patterns, but we will not be assessed on these new patterns. This week, we will work with the au, aw spelling pattern. During reading time, we will be reading about all kinds of helpers. In Social Studies, we will be completing our work with Memorial Day and U.S. Symbols. If you are in the building, please check our bulletin board. The children researched U.S. Symbols, and then created a learning poster. I am so very proud of this Best Bobcats Class. I am looking forward to the handful of days we have left together. They are truly a fun group of learners. Pete the Cat is Coming Up Soon!
We will be going to the production of Pete the Cat on Tuesday, May 28th.
We had a fun week with our duckling, Peep. We only had one egg hatch, so Ms. Sam's Readiness class lent us a duckling each day to keep ours company. We said our goodbyes to Peep on Friday. He will join the many ducks at Greentwist Acres, right here in New Boston.
This week we will complete our research on U.S. Symbols. We will focus on the history and meaning of "The Star Spangled Banner". We continue to focus on assessing our learning while continuing to learn new concepts. This week we will focus on completing our end of the year Math Assessment and our leveled reading and comprehension assessments. During reading time, we will also be learning the pattern and sound of oo, ou, and ui. We will focus on understanding the themes of our stories. Thank you for the donations of tissues and sanitizing wipes. They are always appreciated! We are looking forward to our duck hatch this week!
Last week we had a visit from Mrs. Makowiecki and Mrs. Judd. Mrs. Makowiecki shared her extensive egg collection and knowledge with us. Mrs. Judd gave our eggs a final candling. We have 5 eggs that appear to be healthy and should hatch soon! This week will be an assessment week. We will be taking a Benchmark Reading Assessment, as well as being assessed on our sight word reading fluency. Our spelling words will be a review of the "r" controlled vowel pattern. This is a tricky pattern, but the more exposure to this pattern, the more accurate your child will be as a reader and as a speller. This week we will be continuing to learn to read and write time to the hour and half hour. This is a busy time in first grade. We are working on assessing what we have learned as well as learning new concepts. Early bed times and maintaining a school routine are encouraged. Permission slips for our upcoming theater trip went home on Thursday. Please sign and return. Our class supplies of sanitizing wipes, additional snacks and juice for the occasionally forgotten one, and soft tissues are dwindling. If you are able to donate one of the following to the class, we would be appreciative! Thank you! Some Important Dates...The Thursday notices will have a complete listing... The kids did a fantastic job all week long, and the culminating performances were outstanding! Monday morning, we will be heading to Old Coach Rd. to plant trees. Please have your child dress for the weather. I would also encourage that you apply bug spray to your child before heading out the door.
We will return around snack time and resume our day! We are more than halfway through our egg hatch. This week we will be learning more about the egg development! We are so very excited to share our classroom and then to perform for you! It's quite a show.
As a reminder, for BOTH the daytime dress rehearsal and the night time show, children should wear SOLID DARK colored bottoms. We will have our T-Shirts on top! T-shirts will be at school. Open House begins at 5:00 and the Circus performance begins at 5:30. Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to bring in items for our snack tomorrow! Please bring these items tomorrow morning, as I'm uncertain what time we will have snack tomorrow! Families, after the performance tomorrow, please pick your child up in the classroom. This way I will know that all children are returned to their families. I'd also like to collect T-shirts so that we can wear them again on Monday when we plant trees. (Information about tree planting is coming home today!) |
