Thank you to all for the food and drink supplies for our Halloween Party.
As a reminder, children should bring their costumes to school. They will change in and out of them here at school. Please be sure to label everything, and costumes should be appropriate. A general guideline, as noted before, is no blood, guts, or gore. :] We have had a good week here. The dreary weather was a bit challenging, as it made for a different routine, and new playing experiences. The Teamwork Tigers worked together to figure out how to make dreary days indoors together into a bit of sunshine! Next week, we will be working on a reading and engineering unit on building. Any supplies of tubes, small jewelry style cardboard boxes, tape, marshmallows, toothpicks, and any other small crafting materials, would be welcomed! If you have anything on hand to donate, please send it in by Wednesday. The latter half of the week will be focusing on taking our ideas and creating models! Teamwork Tiger families...thank you for all of your support. Your help with keeping school a priority for your children is a key to your children's success. These children are growing and shining! We are wrapping up a terrific week of learning.
I hope your child shared their Leaf project with you! They did a great job collecting and being observers and recorders of leaf information. We then created our own Leaf creations! The Teamwork Tigers are REALLY creative! Today we had our Fire Safety presentation. The class did a great job, and we received compliments on our excellent behavior from the firefighters! This is a great introduction to next week's Social Studies and Reading work...Community Helpers! Families, please see the NBCS Bobcat Bulletin for information on a change to our Halloween Parade. If you would like to sign up to donate an item to our Snack Party, please see the link in last week's post. Also, it is getting close to the end of the month. Please be sure that your child has completed the SEESAW homework that was assigned at the beginning of the month. I will have homework assignments there monthly. Next month's assignments will be more curriculum based. This will also be used as an assignment platform should we have a remote snow event.
We are enjoying learning about Autumn. This week we focused on pumpkins, and next week we will do some sorting of leaves.
Halloween is on the way! Be sure to check out the school's Bobcat News for information on our school parade. Here is what will be happening in our classroom! Your child may bring a costume to school. Be sure to label everything! I ask that costumes be school appropriate...no blood, guts, or gore. We will have a Halloween Snack Party right after the parade. Please click below to sign up for an item. Many children have been accessing SEESAW to complete their October Homework! Great job. Please be sure to complete this by the end of October. As a reminder, our ConnectED platform is the "go to" place for all things reading and math. Please check these resources out weekly. There is an abundance of School to Home connections and your child can also access the reading and math material for the week. This platform will also be used should we have a Remote Snow Day, so it is vital that children are familiar and any problems logging on, etc. have been addressed. Here at school, I have had some difficulty accessing the reading pieces on the ipads. If your child is using an ipad, it may require you to get a ConnectED app in order to view the material. If this is the case, it may also require me to give you a different password. Please let me know if this applies to your family. Thank you for your help with this at-home learning piece. This week, our reading and writing question will be, "What can you do with your friends?" We will read about friends, discuss way to be a good friend, and write about the topic too.
In math, we are working on solving addition and subtraction problems. We are focusing on using the vocabulary of making a change to more and making a change to less. We are learning that we can write a number sentence to go with these words. For example: If we have 2 pumpkins and then we get three more pumpkins, this will change what we have to more pumpkins. 2+3 = 5 pumpkins. This would be an example of a change to more math problem. I reviewed our ConnectED platform (Reading and Math) again with the kids on Friday, and shared with them some of the things that they could access at home by using this. The reading part of ConnectED will have the spelling words for the week, suggestions for activities for reading and writing, and access to all of the books and games for that week. Children can also access the math lessons and games through this platform. If you need me to resend your child's password, please send a note in your child's folder, and I will be happy to do that. Also, the passcodes for SEESAW have gone home and there is some homework for the month of October assigned there. Please be sure to check it out. Both of these platforms will be used if we have a Remote Learning Snow Day, and I would like all children to be familiar and comfortable with using them from home. Our science work will be focused around pumpkins and asking questions about pumpkins. We will have a pumpkin lab this week! Our Social Studies work will include focusing on friendships and fire safety. If you have not returned the Fire Safety permission slip, please send it in by tomorrow. If you have misplaced the slip, please send in a note either giving or not giving permission for your child to visit the Fire Safety trailer. Hello Families,
The Teamwork Tigers continue to wow their teachers! I am so impressed with how much they have grown into a classroom community within the first 20 days of school! Our walking field trip was a lot of fun, and the kids learned to recognize many of the buildings and structures in the center of town. They also enjoyed playing, Where in New Boston are the Teamwork Tigers? The children had to try to figure out where their classmates were based on the photos that were sent in. This was a great way for the kids to learn to have collaborative conversations! They did GREAT! If your child has not sent in a photo, but your child would still like to, they are welcome to send one in this week. We will be reviewing the pictures again throughout the week. We had an apple day on Thursday. We became apple scientists and observed, measured, weighed, and floated our apples. The kids had great questions that stemmed from these experiments, so your child may ask you for an apple or two to extend our learning and try out some of their questions! Be on the lookout for your child's Seesaw learning code. This will come home on Monday with a letter attached as to how I am planning to utilize this platform. Have a wonderful weekend. You have amazing children who are learning and growing daily! |
