Our class worked together to decide on our class name. Today we became the Teamwork Tigers! We are working on our cheer now. Be sure to ask your child about our class name.
We have completed our first reading unit. We had our first spelling test, and we are becoming key detail experts! Today we had to draw a picture of an important detail in one of the stories that we read this week. The students then shared their work and called upon each other to "Guess their Key Detail". They did a phenomenal job. Next week our reading unit correlates with our Social Studies work on place. We will be investigating the question..."What is it like where you live?" As part of this inquiry, I'd love for the kids...with your help... to take one digital picture of somewhere in New Boston. It could be a picture of a street or street sign, a landmark, a memorial, a trail, etc. I would ask that your child be prepared to share the name of this place and be able to describe a little about it. For instance, if your child took a picture of the Town Hall. Your child might share that this is the Town Hall and it is in the center of town. I'd love if you could email me just one picture digitally by Monday evening. This is optional, but it would be great to have a large amount of class participation. We will be sharing the pictures and the information throughout the week! Our math work is focusing on automatic recognition of amounts of items, sums of ten and subtracting from ten. The Boosterthon was a great success. The kids loved when the representatives came into the class! The BOOSTERTHON is on Friday. Please have your child wear sneakers on Friday. The PTA has given each child a T-shirt which they will be given on Friday. Your child will want to wear clothing suitable for being active. Please have them bring extra water!
Here is a message from our Boosterthon Representatives... The New Boston Central School Fun Run is Friday. Thank you to all of our families who have been working hard to raise funds for our school. We truly appreciate your support Would you consider reaching out to one or two more donors tonight and help keep the momentum going? Extended family and friends are a great place to start. To sign up, search for your school or use our school registration code: 596617 Your children have completed 12 days of school! On their twelfth day, they came back from library time to find that one of our Painted Lady butterflies had emerged from its crysalis. They were so excited. The butterfly was sent on its way with well wishes and hopes for a joyful butterfly life. This week we created our class constitution, and today, we celebrated Constitution Day. Your child has completed Unit 1 in mathematics and completed the Unit 1 assessment. This will come home next week. Next week, we will begin to add spelling words and a spelling test into our routine. You will receive your child's password card for Reading and Math on Monday. This will give your child at home access to additional reading and math practice. Our reading next week will explore the question, "What is it like at your school?" We will be reading and learning about how schools in different parts of the world are both similar and different from ours. Next week, YOU get to head Back to School too. Monday is Back to School Night. Grade 1 begins at 6:05 and ends at 6:35ish. This is a grown-up only event. I will be presenting to you what a typical day looks like for our class, and share with you some of the curriculum materials that we use. Please follow current district guidelines and wear a mask. The entrance to my classroom is at Door 4. Here is a message from the Boosterthon group... This weekend we are issuing a special challenge! Check out mybooster.com for details! Hello Families, We are off to a great start this week. We are loving writing in our journals, retelling stories with picture cues, and working on our number sense. We're playing lots of number games to help us practice counting and comparing. We have learned a lot of academic and community routines! We are flying! Next week, we begin our next step of having some "at-home" learning responsibilities. Your child's Reading/Math passwords will come home next week. This will give your child at-home access to our reading and math work, and provide opportunities for additional home practice. Below is a message from Boosterthon regarding our PTA fundraiser. ************** Our class will be preparing for the New Boston Central School Fun Run coming up soon! Tomorrow, we begin learning how to choose to live with character every day through Booster's brand new character theme, Sports City Worldwide. Our students will learn five 21st-century character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world. Make sure to ask your students what they've learned each day, and together you can watch the story unfold! Remember, we need your help connecting to sponsors who can make a donation to help our school! The more donations we get, the more incentives our class earns on our Donation-O-Meter. Here's how your family can make a big difference.
Thank you for your generosity and support of our school. If you have any questions, please let me know. Have a great day! P.S. Make sure to register your child on mybooster.com. Search for your school or use our school registration code: 596617 We have been learning about how scientists know so much. We have learned that scientists learn a lot by being observant and asking curiosity questions. We've been using our magnifying glasses and observing objects. We are then thinking of questions we have about these objects.
We've had lots of curiosity questions about our caterpillars, and we've observed that some have become chrysalides. During math time we have been practicing using new math tools. We have been using Rekenreks ( a tool similar to an abacus) and shape templates. We are working on our number order, the concepts of 1 more and 1 less, and estimating. Our Social Studies work has been focusing on learning the rules of our school and working together to follow the rules of being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible. Next week we will continue to focus on this. We will establish our classroom constitution as we learn about the U.S. Constitution and recognize Constitution Day. Hello Families, It has been a terrific week. Your children are AMAZING! Our school theme is BETTER TOGETHER, and after just three days, I am seeing a group of children that are learning to work together. They are a friendly and kind bunch, and they are FUN! This week we were each given a letter and were told that it would all go "together" to say something special. Each child painted their letter and then we worked together to figure out what it said. Here it is! We are learning to retell stories. In your child's folder are two papers that worked on this skill. Your child should be able to use the pictures to retell the story of The Kissing Hand and If You Take a Mouse to School.
We are also very excited about our Monarch and Painted Lady caterpillars. We will continue to learn about them next week. We are learning to be scientific observers! Have a wonderful weekend. If you have not yet done so, please sign and send back the Emergency Information sheet. |
