Tomorrow is our walk to the Food Pantry. Please be sure that your child is prepared with the proper gear for our walk. We will be going through some snow, so boots are required!
We have tallied and graphed our donations! Thank you for your generosity. We will be opening our kindness notes in the morning too! Please be sure that your child packs these tonight. We are looking forward to a great day. Please be sure to check out previous postings and our "Sign Ups" tab for information about the Readers' Theatre presentation and party. Thanks for all of the donations of yummy treats! We will have full bellies! We had an amazing week reading and writing and building animal habitats.
This week we will learn about how we can help our community. Our annual food drive is underway. I'd like to have all permission slips for our walk to the Food Pantry returned by Tuesday. Our class is responsible for collecting the following items: toothpaste white tuna canned fruit fruit juices (quart sizes are best) We will NOT have a spelling test this week or Math homework. We will have Tuesday reading homework. I have spoken to the students about quality work expectations and reminded them that this includes homework. Expectations:
Our science work will be to review the order of the seasons and to build a model that shows the reason for seasonal changes. On Friday morning, we will be opening our letters of kindness to each other. If you need a new list, please let me know and I'll put another copy in your child's folder. We will also be preparing for our Readers' Theatre presentation of the story The Night Before the Snow Day! We can't wait to share that with you on Friday. We will start our performance right at 1:00, so if you are able to come, please arrive a few minutes before 1:00. Treats and lots of eating to directly follow the performance! Report cards went home on Friday. Please sign the envelope and return it to school. You do not need to send the report back, just the envelope. This week our reading and science work will be on animal habitats. On Friday, we will have our science class outdoors. Your child must have full winter gear to participate in this lesson.
Speaking of snow clothes, your kids have done an excellent job with their snow gear! The class has learned the snow clothes routine! The dry shoes that stay at school has been helpful for those who have selected this option. One less thing to carry and remember! We will have a regular spelling and homework routine this week. You can expect to see spelling words come home on Monday, a book or a chapter to read on Tuesday, and math work on Wednesday. Children should be practicing their spelling daily both at school and at home. I encourage you to use our digital resources to support our reading and math. The School to Home section on the Wonders Reading platform has some excellent printable practice sheets as well. Our Social Studies work will focus on the concepts of Needs and Wants. Be on the watch for information about collecting items for the New Boston Food Pantry. The information will come home mid-week. We have had a great response for our class party. This will be on December 20th at 1:00. Many expressed the ability to volunteer, so please come. If you didn't volunteer, but find that you are able to come, ALL families are welcome. I've decided that the first part of our party will be a Reader's Theater production that we will perform for you. We will be performing the story, The Night Before the Snow Day! I have explained our note writing to the class, and I have sent home a listing of our class members. These notes should come in on the morning of Friday, December 20th. We will be opening these in the morning. Tomorrow will be a day of learning how to keep track of all of our snow gear. Children should come equipped to play in the snow...boots, snowpants, jacket, hat, mittens. They should also have a change of shoes. Your child is welcome to keep a pair of dry shoes or hard soled treaded slippers here at school. This will save some room in the backpack. All other gear will need to come to and from school.
SPELLING THIS WEEK... I will send home the spelling words, and children should practice these words, but I will not be assessing them on these words. This is a tricky pattern, and the snow day and the Friday teacher workshop will make for a short week. Your children should practice these words, as we will encounter these types of words in our reading and writing. As a reminder, please be sure to utilize our online reading and math resources. If you need another password card, please let me know. There are a variety of resources available in both the reading and the math sites. Have a great day! See you soon. |
