Your children continue to grow and flourish. I am very proud of their efforts.
On Tuesday, we will be having a Celebrate Winter Snack Party. I have heard from a couple of people that they are able to provide a pre-packaged/store bought treat. We could use one or two more items if possible. I would also like to do a small trinket exchange. See last week's update for details. If this is a hardship please let me know. I can provide extras for your child to distribute. There are 12 students in our classroom. The class has done an outstanding job throughout the school year, and I also proclaim Tuesday as PAJAMA DAY for the Shining Super Stars. Your child is welcome to come dressed in pajamas. Slippers are okay too, as long as they have a rubber sole and grips! Our focus next week will be to apply our understanding of bar graphs. The kids are doing a great job with this. It is important for your child to be precise when completing a bar graph. Next week, they will be asked to collect data and to show it on a bar graph. We will learn more about the Winter Solstice on Tuesday as well. Now that the work of plowing and shoveling is done, I hope you had the opportunity to enjoy the white stuff! I would like to celebrate the First Day of Winter and this amazing class with a Class Snack on December 22nd. All snacks must be prepackaged/factory packaged. We have lots of juice boxes and water left over from our last celebration, so we will only need food items.
If you are able to donate a food item for our celebration, please let me know and what it will be. We do not have any nut allergies within the classroom. I would like to try something different this year, and do a small trinket gift exchange. Think Dollar Store type toy items or party favors that can be bought in a package and one distributed to each child. If each child could bring in a small trinket for each child in the classroom that would be great. Things like, an animal figurine, a finger puppet, a small car, a pencil topper, etc. There are 12 children in our class. Please plan on spending under $5 total. If this is a hardship, please let me know, I can provide extras. Your children have had a terrific week. They are doing an amazing job with their snow gear. Families, if your child would like to leave a slip on pair of shoes here at school, that is fine. They just have to have a grippy hard sole...shoes like Crocs are fine. This may help to lighten the load of the snow gear a tiny bit. We will be publishing our Winter stories this week, so we will not have a journal this week. Your children's writing is growing and is becoming quite descriptive! Next week our spelling becomes a bit more challenging with the addition of difficult to hear end blends. We are working on our handwriting, and I am seeing big growth here too! Children are working on forming their letters from top to bottom, making sure they are on the lines for size 1 and 2 letters or "underground" for size 3 letters. Ask your child what the letter sizes mean. The letter size is also helpful in developing a visual understanding of words, and it can help with spelling. In class we use different sized boxes and the children become word detectives trying to figure out what word matches the box pattern! This is quite challenging, and really gets their brains working! Have a wonderful weekend! Snowy weather brings new classroom routines. In my morning message tomorrow, I will remind kids to bring their snow clothes. Your child should come prepared each day with snow boots and dry shoes to change into, a jacket, hat, mittens or gloves, and snow pants.
On Tuesday, our special changes to P.E. Please pack sneakers on that day. This week, we will begin to explore measurement using non-standard units of measure. The kids will learn about using the same unit, and how we measure from end to end. We will explore length and width. We continue to work on our addition facts to 10. Our goal is automaticity with these facts. We are also exploring adding and subtracting to 20. I enjoyed reading their thoughts on jobs. Their opinions on jobs they would like to have and would not like to have were GREAT! This week we are continuing to read and spell words with short e, and also adding short u words too. We are getting stronger at retelling stories. We are working on sequencing our retellings. Our Social Studies work has been on Needs and Wants. We will continue with this and also learn about Goods and Services. I am so impressed with your children and their eagerness to learn! |
