We had a wonderful week with our hatched chicks. We created a "Nursery" for the chicks, voted on names, and spent lots of time observing them. Your child has done some wonderful work and journaling in this unit. This will come home on Tuesday. We said good-bye to the chicks on Friday, but we are looking forward to updates from their new home.
Tomorrow, we will begin a short unit on Tide Pool habitats. We will have a virtual visit from Odiorne Point scientists tomorrow! We will wrap up our Social Studies learning on U.S. Symbols this week too. This week and the following, we will be completing some end of the year assessments. We will begin a new reading unit, but we will not be having any more spelling tests. Therefore, you will not see any spelling lists coming home. We will continue to learn new patterns here at school. This week's pattern will be focusing on r controlled vowels. Looking ahead...Tuesday, June 8th will be a remote learning day due to voting happening at the school. The work associated with that day and an updated SCHEDULE will come home towards the end of this week. Please be sure to keep it in a safe place. Since our last remote times, our REMOTE academic and special schedule has changed, so be on the look out for an updated one. If your child is not attending school on June 8th, please be sure to let the office and myself know. June 11th is Field Day. On that day we will also celebrate all birthdays that we have not yet celebrated and re-celebrate ones too! If you are able to send in a pre-packaged treat, water, or juice boxes, please let me know. Our eggs are due to hatch tomorrow. We are hopeful for a terrific hatch. We have been able to candle our eggs to observe the development inside the eggs. We have compared the chicken life cycle to the butterfly life cycle.
During math time we have been working with fractions and with shapes. We understand that polygons are any shape that is closed, has sides, corners, and does not intersect. We will add to this by working with 3D shapes. During Social Studies, we will be learning about Memorial Day and about U.S. Symbols. Hello Families,
Thank you for the wonderful week of appreciative letters and gifts. Your children are the true gift, and I am honored to be their teacher. Many thanks. The class is loving learning about animals, and especially about oviparous animals! We are on day 7 of our Chicken Egg hatch! The class is able to see a model of what is happening inside the eggs on each day. They have learned the following vocabulary words: incubator, temperature, embryo, blood vessels, and yolk. On Friday of this week we will have a visit from Carriage Shack farm. They are bringing some of their animals for us to learn about. Be sure your child dresses for the weather. We will be outside. Please be sure that your child comes prepared each day with the following: their folder (please be sure to look in this daily and to empty it too.), a snack, a full water bottle, and layered clothing. Lunch is going a bit smoother too. Please be sure that you order online if your child is having school lunch. I hope everyone has had a restful vacation. I am looking forward to seeing the class tomorrow.
We are continuing to read and learn about animals. This week we will learn how animals help each other. We will also begin our oviparous animals study. We will be hatching chicks and learning about animals that lay eggs. I have several outdoor math and science activities planned for later in the week. Please be sure that your child dresses for outdoor exploration. Our special has changed, and the class will now have art for the next few weeks. If your child has library books, it is time to return them too. |
