Information came home today regarding our traditional Food Drive and delivery to the New Boston Food Pantry. Although we have listed certain days for bringing items in from the list...truly any day is a-okay to bring in any items that are on the list.
I will also be looking for plastic grocery bags and lots of them. If you have some to spare, we will need them to bag up the items before we head out on our delivery! Homework for the month of December will be posted on SEESAW tomorrow. I will leave up the November assignments until Friday afternoon for anyone who needs a bit more time finishing up November's work. The kids are doing a good job with the addition of winter gear. The extra pair of clean shoes is really helping to keep our learning space dry and clean. Thank you! I hope everyone enjoyed a peaceful Thanksgiving.
I am looking forward to seeing your kids tomorrow. We have a great week planned. We will be focusing on mapping skills this week. We will review the concept of continent, country, community, and town. We will also learn about cardinal directions and make a compass rose. In math, we continue to focus on our math facts, skip counting, and working with numbers to 100. The cold weather is upon us. Please be sure to read my previous post regarding winter gear. As we return from Thanksgiving Break, I'd like to start getting the kids into the cold weather routine.
When the snow flies, boots will begin to come in, and with that, children will need a change of shoes. The kids are welcome to keep a pair of shoes here at school that they can change into. This will eliminate a bulky pair of shoes in the backpack, and can insure that your child will have a clean dry footwear option. Anything with a hard sole is okay. I would suggest a croc-style, hard soled slipper, or slip on style shoe. **However...P.E. is on Mondays. Children will need sneakers for this day.** Children are welcome to do the same with snowpants. If you'd like your child to have a pair of snowpants to keep here at school, that is fine too. Be sure to put your child's name in them. I'm hoping that having these two items on hand will make backpacks a little less full and that children will be prepared for the weather. Additionally, outdoor learning...aka Forest School will continue each Friday. It will be important for kids to be prepared with the proper gear for our adventures. Please let me know if your child will be bringing a pair of shoes and snow-pants to keep in the classroom. That way, I can be sure they exit the backpack, and I can help your child establish this new routine. We had a terrific end to our week. The kids showed such creativity building habitats!
This week, we will spend time learning about The First Thanksgiving. We will not have any new spelling words this week. In math, we will be learning about measurement. The kids have been doing a good job with their SEESAW Monthly Homework. GREAT JOB! The Teamwork Tigers will be publishing a writing this week. We worked last week to create sentences that explain things about November. We will finalize these this week and we will be publishing them. These will come home the following week, just in time for a Thanksgiving read!
We learned about Veterans' Day and created a special banner. This banner will be brought to the Veterans' Home in Tilton as a gift to them. We will continue to build on Veterans' Day as we work this week on reading and answering the question, "How can we help out in the community?" Last week we also learned about animals, and we ended the week by reading and learning about why animals hibernate. Be sure to ask your child what a "hibernaculum" is. This week we will investigate migrating and staying birds. We will once again try to have Friday be our Forest School day. The weather did not cooperate this past Friday! If you have not yet signed up for a conference, please see my previous emails for the sign up link. I would love to meet with each family within the next week or two. If the times that I have available do not work for you, please reach out, and we can find a time that works. This week our reading and science work is all about animals and their habitats. Friday, we will be spending quite a bit of time outside and having our own "Forest School"! We'll be outside working together to use what we have learned to build models of animal habitats. Please be sure that your child dresses for the weather! This week our spelling and phonics pattern is on end blends. This is a very tricky skill, and we are focusing on READING these blends accurately when we encounter them in our texts. We will NOT be having a spelling test on this pattern. I will be sending a word list home, but please use it to practice READING some of the patterned words. Again, there will be NO spelling test this week. Our Social Studies work will focus on learning the symbolism of the American Flag and learning about Veterans' Day. Homework for the month of November has been assigned on SEESAW! Great job with October's homework! Your kids know how to use those tools! I am looking forward to conferencing with you! I will send the ZOOM link via e-mail. Please sign on at your time. You may be in the waiting room for a minute or two while I wrap up with a conference. Hello Families,
Thank you so very much for all of the Halloween goodies! We had a fantastic day! Thank you too for all of the donations for cleaning products and other supplies. You are all amazing! This week we are learning about different buildings and the materials that they are made of. Mid-week, we will be creating our own buildings. If you have any small jewelry type boxes, paper towel tubes, and empty yogurt containers, we will gladly take them off of your hands! I have posted a few more assignments on the SEESAW page. These are reading, math, and science based. SEESAW assignments are due by the end of November! The cold weather is visiting from time to time. Be sure your child comes prepared for the weather. Layers are a good choice right now. Also, please be sure to change out your child's extra change of clothes in the backpack so that it is suitable for colder weather. I'm also sending out a heads up that before you know it, we will be into boot weather. Your child will have extra gear to manage and additional responsibilities. If your child is working on learning to tie shoes, button up, and zipper, this is a great time to have your child master these skills. I am in the process of figuring out dates and times for Parent-Teacher conferences. These will be held virtually via ZOOM. Be on the look out for a conference sign up within the next few days. |
