Hello Families,
Your children continue to do a fantastic job! They are learning and growing. This week we will be reading and writing about where we live. We will define the words "city" and "country" and apply this knowledge to define where we live. During math time, we will be breaking down addition and subtraction by using the statements: "Change to more..." and "Change to less". We are also continuing to work on our "hopping" on the number line and number grid. One common error is that students will forget to hop forward or backwards when counting their first hop. They stay on a number and count that number as their first hop. When a student does this, the answer will be off by 1. We are also continuing to work on counting on from a number. We do this as well with our counting by 5 pattern. Soon, we will work through this with the 2s pattern. This week we will begin a science unit on animals and how some of their abilities are pretty amazing! It is almost as if they have Super Powers! The kids are doing a great job with their remote work too! Thank you for this! Although the work is uploaded to SEESAW digitally, I am trying to make many of the assignments "printable". The math journal page is one of these. Remote Learners will have this right in their Math Journal book to do, but for Hybrid Learners, if you can, printing it will be easier. I know that it may be different on some devices, but usually, if you click on the 3 dots, there is a "print activity" option. As far as digital programs go, students have received their Wonders and EveryDay Mathematics password cards. I have been assigning some of the games and books from these sites. This is also a great place to go to enrich and challenge. The Wonders site will have the books that we are reading together. Re-reading these books will help your child to become a proficient and fluent reader. The math site will mirror the lessons we are doing, so your child can go there to review the lesson and practice further. We have one more digital program coming. This is called IXL. Our technology team is currently working to get this up and ready for first graders. You should expect to see a letter from me with information about this later in the week or early next. Thank you for this wonderful group of Shining Super Stars! Comments are closed.
